Fellowships

Marie Curie Fellowships apply for postdoctoral researchers of all career stages or research experience. A candidate may submit any research topic and choose any suitable partner institution abroad (Europe or overseas, depending on the Fellowship scheme).

  • IEF - Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development
  • Financial support for advanced training (12 to 24 months) for experienced (European OR assimilated European) researchers. The fellowship provides funding for a research project undertaken at a host organisation located in a Member State or Associated Country other than the researcher's working place during the last three years (Indicative Eligibility Criteria IEF). The topic of the project can be chosen freely by the researcher.
  • IOF - International Outgoing Fellowships for Career Development
Funding opportunities for experienced European researchers to boost their international career through 12 to 24 month training in a high-level research institution in a Third Country (e.g. USA, Canada, Japan). The IOF comprises a mandatory subsequent 12 month reintegration phase at a host institution in an EU Member State or Associated Country (Indicative Eligibility Criteria IOF).
  • IIF - International Incoming Fellowships For Career DevelopmentFellowship for postdoctoral researchers from Third Countries who are planning to carry out a research project in an EU Member State or Associated Country. The research project can be funded between 12 and 24 months. Researchers who have been working in an EU Member State or Associated Country for more than 12 month within the last 3 years before the deadline are not eligible for this action (Indicative Mobility Criteria IIF).
  • COFUND - Co-funded Calls for Fellowships
The Marie Curie programme also co-funds regional, national and international fellowship programmes that follow a similar scope than the other Marie Curie actions in terms of research training and career development. The fellowships offer funding opportunities for experienced researchers and require a transnational mobility, such as incoming or outgoing mobility of researchers or the reintegration of researchers into a research position in Europe after mobility outside Europe. The exact conditions depend on the specific programme. More information and a list of COFUND fellowships can be found on the CORDIS or KoWi websites.
