Applications & calls for proposals

Check continuously the programme web sites you are targeting for possible delays re original deadlines in April, May, and June, or for changes of regulations.
EU-Commission: Call deadlines originally set for April and May have been extended for most programmes, see latest H2020 calls deadlines updates. Please check for extension of call deadlines scheduled in June as well.
DFG: Various submission deadlines for several of its current calls for proposals have been extended, see regularly updated overview.
BmBF: Please check individual calls (published at "Bekanntmachungen", in German only) for extension of deadlines.
Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation: will continue to accept applications and nominations for its regular funding programmes, but will momentarily not accept funding requests for alumni support measures (due to ongoing travel and other organisational restrictions).

Individual deadlines: In case you are targeting ERC, DFG, BmBF, DAAD, Humboldt, or Volkswagen programmes with individual deadlines or involving additional 'personal' criteria (e.g. based on count of postdoc years, or on completion of the PhD defense, or on BmBF invitation to submit a 'stage two' full proposal), you may get an extension or special exemption which should be requested and discussed personally with the agency’s officer or administrator in charge.
DFG has stated to extend the individual eligibility deadline for the Emmy Noether Programme "by three months for prospective applicants who would otherwise only be eligible to apply by the end of 2020", see updated regulations of the Emmy Noether Programm of 15.04.2020.

Research on Covid-19: The BmBF National Contact Point for the Life Sciences has set up a highly useful, specialized information hub on Covid-19 related research (in German only). This site informs, among others, about dedicated funding activities on German and EU level.
For targeted funding activities on EU level (in English), check particularly the latest H2020 call deadline updates.
Volkswagen Foundation has published a new funding programme line "Corona Crisis and Beyond - Perspectives for Science, Scholarship and Society", which supports research projects related to Covid-19 from various disciplines. Deadline for small grants was 4 June 2020.
For Covid-19 related funding activities of DFG, see below section "Useful links (selection)".
