Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI)

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the pharmaceutical industry and the European Union. It aims at strengthening the biopharmaceutical sector in Europe.  IMI supports pre-competitive pharmaceutical research and development with a focus on improving the drug development process.

Competitive calls for proposals are published annually and require collaboration between stakeholders from different sectors such as industry, public authorities (including regulators), organisations of patients, academia and clinical centres.

Currently, 15 IMI projects are running and the selection process for proposals submitted during the second call 2009 is ongoing.
