Comment: The ERC Synergy Grant is a new line of funding and a pilot project. The new funding instrument provides that small groups of two to four excellent "Principal Investigators" are funded up to 15 million Euros for a project period of up to 6 years. With a total budget of 150 million Euros to 10-15 projects will be funded. This would correspond to a success rate of 1-3%.
The result of the evaluation are expected to be published towards the end of 2012.
