Grant training in Brazil

Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), the Max Planck Regional Grants Office Southwest Germany, and the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH São Paulo) will be offering intensive training courses for scientists interested in research opportunities in / with Germany. 
 
Places and dates: São Paulo (2 - 4 Apr 2017) and Belo Horizonte (5 - 7 Apr 2017).
  
Objective: to convey a comprehensive understanding of the methods and technical know-how required for preparing successful international research proposals:
 
• turning a scientific idea into a feasible project (designing & grant writing)
• identifying and addressing suitable funding programs, incl. their policies & rules
• understanding & using career effects of the program families on independence
• addressing potential host institutions / supervisors / collaborative Partners
 
The two 2.5 days workshops will be run in both a 'taught' and a 'group work' (simulation game) format requiring the active involvement of the participants.
 
Part I will address the principles and policies of the various programme families ('funding landscape') and give an overview about major national & international fellowships and grants. It will also discuss potential career effects of the programmes.
 
Part II will provide valuable insights into essentials of scientific grant writing. This part will be carried out by University Professor and Vice President of Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), Brigitta Schütt.
 
Part III will offer a proposal simulation game allowing for a hands-on preparation of a proposal outline (based on a realistic scenario), including evaluation/discussion, feedback, and tips on how to apply these sim game insights to other fellowships/grants.

Who can participate?
 
The workshop will be open to the young researcher community in Brazil (PhD students, Post Docs, Young Faculty). Participants will benefit from an on-site opportunity to meet and interact with representatives of major funding agencies.
 
The training session is free of charge.
